E-STaR Scholars Program
The UC San Diego Learning Health System Embedded Scientist Training and Research (E-STaR) Center Scholars program provides didactic and experiential training in learning health systems science to clinicians and scientists from diverse backgrounds. The E-STaR program offers a unique opportunity to:
- Expand your expertise: Build a strong foundation in the core competencies of Learning Health Systems research.
- Lead your own research project: Gain practical experience by leading your own research project, encompassing the full cycle of developing, executing, managing, and reporting.
- Work with mentors: Benefit from personalized guidance from leading faculty and community partners. A list of Center leadership and mentors is available here.
- Engage with community partners: Collaborate with El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) and Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) and support their mission of serving disproportionately underserved and marginalized communities.

Program Benefits
Funding
Each embedded research scientist will receive an annual budget of up to $45,000 in direct costs, intended to support approximately 20% effort.Structured Training Program

Am I eligible?
You are eligible to be an E-STaR Scholar if you:
- Hold a faculty, clinician, fellow, resident, or staff position at UC San Diego OR
- Are a postdoctoral scholar or PhD student or candidate at the UC San Diego.
