E-STaR Call for Applications
The application period for the second cohort of the E-STaR Scholars program has closed. Key dates and application materials are provided below for reference, to help future applicants understand the general timeline and requirements.
2025 Key Dates
This cohort of scholars will begin in October 2025 and the program will be 1 to 2 years. The exact timeline will depend on the individual needs of each E-STaR Scholar.

Drop-in Office Hour: June 10, 11 am–12 pm PT
Application Deadline: July 7, 5:00 pm PT
Scholar Notifications: August 15
Program Start Date: October 1
How to apply
Applicants were asked to submit the following materials:
- Curriculum Vitae or NIH Biosketch
- Personal Statement (up to 500 words): Describe your interest in this program and explain how your background, experiences, and/or research interests contribute to quality improvement in health care.
- Support Letter: A letter from your department chair, division chief, or program director confirming their support for your participation in the program. This letter should acknowledge that you will be able to dedicate at least 20% of your time to the program and provide a brief explanation of why you are a strong candidate for the E-STaR Scholars program.
- Writing or Presentation Samples (Optional): You may provide up to three writing or presentation samples.
Promising applicants were invited to interview with members of the selection committee. Final selections were announced on August 15, 2025.
